Periodontics and Gum Treatment That Stops the Damage

Bleeding gums are the early warning, not the problem itself. Most dentists tell you to floss harder. Our specialists stop the progression before it becomes permanent.

We catch gum disease in Downtown Dubai at the stage where treatment can still reverse the damage, and we have spent 25 combined years doing exactly that. Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults, and it happens quietly. That’s why patients who come in early keep their teeth, while those who wait often don’t.

The Two Stages, and Why the Difference Matters

Gingivitis is the early stage. Gums bleed, look red, and feel swollen, but the bone underneath is untouched. Catch it here, and it reverses completely with the right treatment.

Periodontitis is what gingivitis becomes if it’s left alone. The infection reaches the bone holding your teeth in place, and that damage doesn’t reverse. Treatment at this stage is about stopping further loss, not undoing what’s already gone.

Periodontics and Gum Treatment

The Line That Decides Everything

There are two stages, and the difference between them matters more than anything else on this page. Gingivitis is the early stage. The gums are inflamed and they bleed, but nothing has been lost yet. Treat it properly and the gums go back to health. Fully reversible.

Periodontitis is what comes next. The infection has reached the bone holding your teeth in, and bone does not grow back on its own. We can stop it, control it and keep your teeth for decades. We cannot undo the bone you have already lost.

That is why our periodontal team pushes so hard on early treatment. The window between those two stages is where your teeth are saved.

Periodontics and Gum Treatment That Stops the Damage

Signs You Should Not Wait On

  • Blood in the sink when you brush or floss
  • Gums that look red, puffy or tender rather than firm and pink
  • Bad breath that returns within an hour of brushing
  • Teeth that look longer than they used to, which means the gum is receding
  • Sensitivity at the gum line to cold drinks
  • A tooth that feels slightly loose, or a bite that has started to feel different
  • Small collections of pus along the gumline, or a bad taste that keeps coming back
  • Gaps opening up between teeth that used to sit close together
  • Gums that feel sore or tender when you eat something hard or crunchy

One important exception. Smoking reduces the blood supply to the gums, so smokers often do not bleed even with advanced disease. If you smoke, absence of bleeding tells you nothing, and a proper assessment tells you everything.

What the Numbers Mean

At your assessment you will hear our dentist calling out numbers while measuring around each tooth. Here is what they are recording. A healthy gum sits tight against the tooth, one to three millimetres deep. At four millimetres a pocket has formed, which means bacteria are living somewhere your toothbrush cannot reach. At five and above, bone has been lost around that tooth.

We show you your chart and explain what each number means for that tooth. Patients tell us this is the first time anyone has bothered, and it is usually the moment gum treatment stops feeling optional.

Our Gum Treatments

Deep Cleaning: Scaling and Root Planing

This is the treatment that does the real work. Our dentist cleans below the gum line, removing the hardened deposits and bacterial toxins that a normal clean cannot reach, then smooths the root surface so the gum can reattach to it.

It is done under local anaesthetic and often across two appointments so you are comfortable. Most patients with early to moderate disease need nothing beyond this.

Laser-Assisted Gum Therapy

Used alongside deep cleaning in suitable cases, to target infected tissue precisely and support faster healing with less soreness afterwards.

Pocket Reduction Surgery

When pockets stay deep after non-surgical treatment, we can access and clean the root properly, then reshape the gum so it sits tight against the tooth again. It stops the cycle where the pocket refills a few months after every clean.

Gum Grafting for Recession

Receding gums expose the root, which brings sensitivity, a longer-looking tooth and a surface that decays easily. Grafting rebuilds the missing tissue, covers the root and protects the tooth.

Gum Contouring and Depigmentation

Cosmetic gum work for a smile that shows too much gum, an uneven gum line, or dark patches of pigmentation. Our team treats the health side first, then the appearance.

Why a Normal Clean Is Not Enough

A routine dental cleaning works above the gum line and keeps healthy gums healthy. It is exactly what most patients need twice a year.

Once a pocket has formed, the problem has moved somewhere a standard clean cannot reach. Polishing the visible surface while the infection sits four millimetres down does nothing except make things look better for a fortnight. That is the gap our periodontal treatment exists to close, and we will always tell you which of the two you need.

Gum Health and the Rest of Your Body

Gum disease is a chronic infection, and it does not stay in your mouth. The link with diabetes runs both ways, with uncontrolled blood sugar making gum disease worse and gum inflammation making blood sugar harder to control. Gum health is also associated with heart health, and with outcomes during pregnancy.

Our dentists ask about your general health at the assessment for that reason. If you are diabetic, tell us. It changes how closely we monitor you.

What Happens After Treatment

Treated gum disease is controlled rather than cured, and this is the part that decides whether it stays that way.

Most patients move onto a three or four month maintenance schedule instead of the usual six. Bacteria repopulate a treated pocket in roughly three months, so getting ahead of that is the whole strategy. We also re-measure your pockets at each visit, so you can see the numbers improving rather than take our word for it.

Patients who keep to that schedule keep their teeth. It is the single most reliable pattern we see in this clinic.

Gum Health Before Implants and Cosmetic Work

Gum disease is the leading cause of implant failure, which is why we treat it before any dental implants are placed. The same applies to veneers and crowns, since both sit at the gum line and neither survives on an inflamed foundation.

Some clinics will place cosmetic work anyway. We will not, and we would rather explain why now than replace the work in two years.

Why Patients Choose Trusta for Gum Treatment

  • We complete a full pocket chart during your assessment and explain the findings tooth by tooth.
  • Our team brings 25 combined years of experience in gum treatment and implant dentistry.
  • We start with non-surgical treatment and recommend surgery only when deep pockets require it.
  • We create a maintenance schedule based on your gum health and risk factors.
  • We re-measure your gums during follow-up visits to track your progress.
  • Our team manages gum, restorative and implant care in one clinic.

Our clinic sits in Downtown Dubai, close to Business Bay, DIFC and City Walk. Gum treatment often requires several visits, so a convenient location makes each appointment easier.

What Affects the Cost of Gum Treatment in Dubai

The cost depends on how far the disease has progressed. A single deep cleaning session differs from full-mouth therapy across several appointments. Surgical treatment and gum grafting also require different approaches.

Our dentist assesses your gums and explains the full treatment plan. You will know what your gums need before treatment begins.

Book Your Gum Assessment

Bleeding gums are easy to ignore. Leaving them untreated can lead to more serious and costly problems. Book an assessment to find out what is causing the bleeding and which treatment you need. Our team in Downtown Dubai will assess your gums and explain the next steps.

our expert answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can gum disease be cured?
Gingivitis, yes, completely. Periodontitis can be stopped and controlled, but the bone already lost does not come back. That is exactly why early treatment matters so much.
Does deep cleaning hurt?
It is done under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel the treatment. Gums are usually tender for a day or two afterwards and that settles quickly.
My gums bleed but they do not hurt. Is that normal?
No. Healthy gums do not bleed. Painless bleeding is the earliest sign of gum disease and the easiest stage to treat, which makes it the best possible time to come in.
Will I lose my teeth?
Not if we catch it in time. Most patients who start treatment and stick to maintenance keep their teeth for life.

Their approach feels professional and patient-centered rather than commercial. The clinic also seems very selective in choosing its doctors.
